ABOUT CATHEDRAL PREP

The Cathedral Preparatory Seminary High School Program is for young men of high school age who are seriously considering the call to be a priest. Any young man from any one of the public or Catholic high schools located in the Archdiocese of New York is welcome to join the program and explore the possibility of a vocation to the priesthood. The basic activity of the program is the monthly retreat (also called weekend of formation) that takes place on the grounds of St. Joseph's Seminary, Dunwoodie located in Yonkers, New York. On these special weekends, the young men participate in conferences and discussions given by diocesan priests. They also interact with the seminarians of St. John Neumann Residence and St. Joseph's Seminary. They partake in periods of prayer including a holy hour in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament, a rosary vigil, and morning, evening and night-time prayers. They also have plenty of time for recreation with the utilization of Dunwoodie's magnificent gymnasium. In all, the young men of the Prep build up friendships with their peers and find prayerful support in each other as they grow in their vocations. In addition to the retreat weekends, the Prep students participate in several liturgies and events at the Seminary and at St. Patrick's Cathedral that remind them that they are truly a part of the Seminary family. The Dean of Cathedral Prep, Fr. Thomas A. Lynch, coordinates the retreats and events of the Prep program in conjunction with a number of diocesan priests who volunteer with their assistance and expertise. He also works closely with the Rector of St. Joseph's Seminary, Msgr. Peter Finn, and the Director of Vocations, Fr. Joseph Tierney.
